Safe in Sound

The crackling in the distance;
a mixture of pleasure and fear.
The streaks of light - excite.

Flashback of childhood
under the covers,
listening quietly in awe
of the sounds of nature
in all her glory.

The heart pounding,
waiting...
adrenaline flowing
into the deafening sound of the storm.

The windows vibrate,
my voice shouts out
for motherly snuggling
to edge the fear out.

Soon all that is left,
is the drip-drop of the rain;
upon the rooftop...
drifting off to sleep
once more.

Now awake!
Hearing my child call out
for motherly snuggling.
Arise to take place as the
safe harbor waiting for the
silent fall of the rain.
