the length of the days wind down
as the sun warms my face still
the grass is dry and long
awaiting a harvest to spill
the seed upon the earth
and begin the cycle anew
the days of summer come to an end
and autumn takes it's place
with chill in the night
spice in the cup
I smile
and welcome it home
